Kate Gosselin (Jon and Kate plus8)

Yesterday we drove to First Christian Church in Huntington beach to see Kate Gosselin speak and hopefully get my book signed. It's one of mine and Randy's favorite shows, we record it and have been watching it since the beginning. I love the show for so many reasons. I love seeing how they raise such a giant family. She is just so organized and type A that she makes it seem SO easy. I also LOVE that they are little mixed asian babies!
I also relate to her becuase because we both have twins. And the biggest reason is bc her and I went through almost the exact same experience pertaining to bed rest and I thought of her often as I lay in the hospital for those 9 weeks. I loved Monday nights bc their show was on and it was comforting to me. It felt familiar, like an old friend :)

I got her book for Christmas and couldn't put it down. Reading about what it was like for her in the hospital w/ the 6 (she spent 10 weeks) was all too familiar. I knew exactly what she was talking about when she described the medications she was on and what they were like, how everyday the goal was to just keep them inside and how scary somedays were. How she looked out the window longing to have fresh air. How hard it was to sleep in the hospital, how hard it was to try to take in so many calories when your stomach is full of babies. On and on. I completely related. And it was comforting to know someone had been through it too. I wish I had the book when I was in there. Like she did, we had bible verses hung all over our hospital room and God was the only reason we made it through everything.
Obviously her babies spent weeks and weeks in the NICU and again, what she talked about and described I knew EXACTLY what she was talking about. She goes on to tell what it was like when they came home. At the time I was reading it the babies had only been home for about 6 weeks and I felt like I was reading my own story. Reading about how she never got to go outside bc it was just too hectic and the day escaped her etc. How overwhelming it was to be back in society after months of confinment and on top of that how hard it was caring for fragile preemies and their needs. To see how healthy and happy her children are now, years later even though they were 3 months premature (ours were two) how she eventually got back into the grove of life and that it would eventually get easier...gave me hope.
All that to say, the book and her life in general is such an inspiration to me. She is a Godly woman and it was awesome to hear last night how God showed up and provided for them in so many ways.

When we finally got up to her table she immediatly "ooo'd and ahh'd" over the babies saying "Well what do we have here?" and reaching up to move Kaleiah's blanket so she could see her (she was sleeping). I told her their names and said that we all watched their show!
She had mentioned in her talk that she felt sort of cheated in her pregnancy with the twins bc she had always wanted to be pregant more than once (and that was possibly the only time bc Jon didn't want anymore kids). Randy told her that I felt cheated as well ( bc of everything that happened and us maybe not having anymore kids) and she said well just don't follow us now and have 6 more! I said "on, no!" and we all laughed. I told her how I was on bed rest as well and she said "Oh, then you know all about it!" I told her, if you can do it with 8 I can totally do it with two! She was super nice and funny and we loved meeting her! We don't beleive the rumors swirling around their marriage but continue to pray for them. I'm sure the pressure of being in the public eye is enough to cause conflict in any marriage. Anyway, here are the pics!

So awesome Meg! That's probably the best present I could have gotten you, huh?! Glad I decided to buy thta book for you and so happy you got her to sign it! People just have no clue what you really went through being on bedrest. Not being outside, no fresh air, so sounds from the outside, can't hear birds singing, smells from the outdoors, etc. So anyway, glad the book made you feel better and not so "all alone". Love you guys and so proud of you and your strength!

Hi Megan!

I was a couple of people behind you in line. I did a search on the speaking engagement and found your blog. Here's my account:

I'm glad you could relate. I've also been watching since the beginning. My teenage daughter got me into it. She was with me.

God Bless you!

Hi Megan & Randy!! I found your blog a little while ago and love seeing your growing family! The twins are SO adorable! I am so jealous that you got to meet Kate...she spoke at Willow Creek a few months ago but there were THOUSANDS of people there so we didn't get to meet her. Robby & I watch their show all the time! Anyway, hope you guys are doing well!
