Week 15

Week 15

Baby's Length: 4-4.5 in

Baby's Weight: 1.5-2 oz.

Baby's Size: Lemon

I have been feeling the babies move for a few weeks now. This is called quickening and it feels different for everyone. I've heard it described as fluttering, bubbles, tapping. To me it feels like a twitch but it happens all over the place in my belly! It's very slight but I think since I was expecting to feel it soon, I was more aware of it. It's neat!
About 15 days til we find out what they are!

Second Trimester

I am officially in my 2nd trimester! How cool! The first one flew by and I know the rest of the pregnancy will too. I am just trying to enjoy every minute of it because I will never get this time back. They say the 2nd trimester is the "honeymoon" of pregnancy. I am excited to see what it is like. The first trimester was a breeze and there were so many times that I practically forgot I was pregnant. Here is what is happening with the babies this month:

Week 14

Baby's Length: 3.25-4 in.

Baby's Weight: 1-1.50 oz.

Baby's Size: Peach

Month 4

External Features: At four months fetal skin is transparent enough for underlying blood vessels to be seen clearly. Fingernails are well established and toenails begin to form. Nostrils by this time are almost formed and eyes move from the lateral sides of the head to the ventral side. Soft and thin hairs, called lunugo hairs, begin to grow on the scalp.

Organ Systems: Internally, a male fetus forms seminal vesicle and ovaries in the female fetus contain primordial follicles. Throughout the body, brown fat formation begins, as does hematopoiesis (blood cell formation) in the bone marrow. Liver functionality begins. In the brain, pyramidal tracts begin to form and tranverse grooves appear on the dorsal surface of the cerebellum.

A fetus at this stage had enough autonomy to suck its thumb and is active enough for the mother to feel the fetal movements. The time when a mother first feels the movement of the fetus is called "quickening."

Ultrasound week 11

Last Tuesday Megan and I went for her second ultrasound (her first real ultrasound) up at Saddleback Hospital. I wasn't sure what to expect, but i was praying that everything would show up as it should. While Megan was having the ultrasound, i was glued to the TV getting as close as possible to see what exactly was happening. Now i am not sure if i was so close because apparently i am going blind, or if i was just so nervous i had to see every little thing that was going on. Needless to say, it all became real to me when out of nowhere, in what appeared to be 10.1 Surround Sound, Twin A's heart beat filled the room.

I guess our ultrasound technician doesn't warn you that you are going to hear the heart beat, so when we did it was a complete surprise, but TOTALLY amazing!!! Both the babies were progressing ahead of schedule, their heart beats were 167 and 171, and their spines were developing well...???

Megan's mom was telling us the other day that with all of her babies (6) the boys heart beats were all below 150 and the girls were all above 150. But i am still praying for one of each.

I am currently taking baby predictions and name suggestions... shh don't tell megan. (but now that i think about it, i am almost positive she will read this since we are sharing this blog site.)

Here are our ultrasound pictures from week 11

Exciting News

Welcome to our new blog site.

A few months ago Megan and I decided that it was time to start a family. So we prayed about it and on March 12th we found out that our prayers had been heard.

At our first doctors appointment, we found out that we weren't going to get an ultrasound until week 20 and being the impatient people that we can be at times, Megan and I were trying to find a way to get our doctor to do an ultrasound right then and there. So after thinking, Megan mentioned to her doctor that she was a twin and the doctor said lets go do a quick ultrasound. So excited that our planning had worked out, we hurried off. Much to our surprise, or attempt to get an early ultrasound turned out to be more informative than we had expected! WE ARE HAVING TWINS!!!!
First ultrasound- week 9

Second ultrasound- week 11

Keep checking back as we will update our blog regularly and please keep us in your prayers.
